How to wear them
You don't have to wait 'til Saturday night to get your sequins out...but neither do you want to get mistaken for a disco ball. Go with one sequinned item and combine with neutral, matte accessories, such as a sequinned mini-dress with woolly tights, or a skirt with a muted black jacket.

DKNY, Malo and Marc Jacobs have all gone back to school this season, with knee-high socks, crest-embroidered blazers, pleated skirts and argyle sweaters on display.

How to wear it
Miniskirts with long socks, jeans with argyle sweaters...the possibilities are endless! But to avoid looking like you're on your way to 6th period maths, don't wear ballet pumps or trainers with the preppy look: break it up with heels or biker boots.

Checks are making a huge comeback, and this autumn's key trend is Scottish tartan (it was all over at the D&G catwalk shows). From tartan coats to scarves, skirts to bags, there's be no escaping it this season.

How to wear it
A word of caution: tartan is an imposing print, so don't go OTT. One of the best ways to flaunt your taste for tartan is with accessories (but not too many!). If you want to take the trend to the next level, wear one tartan piece such as a dress or jacket and team with classic colours like black or grey.
